Cowlitz Restoration and Recovery grant funding is available for hatchery-associated production (HAP) projects or activities that lead to on-the-ground projects. The 2025 grant round is closed. Year-round engagement is encouraged to prepare for future grant rounds.

October 20, 2025

Last week, Tacoma Power employees recovered 3,796 coho adults, 1,399 coho jacks, five spring Chinook adults, three spring Chinook jacks, 291 fall Chinook adults, 44 fall Chinook jacks, 25 summer-run steelhead, and 49 cutthroat trout over seven days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.

During the past week, Tacoma Power employees released 640 coho adults and 274 coho jacks at Franklin Bridge in Packwood and they released two spring Chinook adults, 469 coho adults, and 321 coho jacks into the Cispus River near Yellowjacket Creek. Tacoma Power also released three spring Chinook adults, three spring Chinook jacks, 1,863 coho adults, 423 coho jacks, and three cutthroat trout into Lake Scanewa at the Day Use Park.

Tacoma Power employees released 95 fall Chinook adults, 42 fall Chinook jacks, 88 coho adults, 36 coho jacks, and two cutthroat trout to the Tilton River at Bremer Bridge and they released 523 coho adults and 339 coho jacks into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton.

River flow below Mayfield Dam is 3,690 cubic feet per second on Monday, October 20, 2025. Water visibility is 8 feet and water temperature is 53.8 (F). River flows could change at any time so boaters and anglers should remain alert for this possibility.
