Overview

Upgrading to an ENERGY STAR Certified dishwasher, ice machine, steam cooker, and/or combination oven with steam cooking functionality can reduce water waste and lower your utility bill. ENERGY STAR Certified Products consume less water and energy on average than standard models. Perfect for small, large, and multifamily property businesses. 

Commercial Kitchen Rebate Details*

Tacoma Water offers business and multi-family property customers a rebate of up to $2,000 per account on the purchase of one or more qualifying EnergyStar Certified Commercial Kitchen Product(s). The rebate is available for both customer and contractor installed Products and is limited to one rebate, for up to four Products, per account per year.  

Rebate Requirements:*  

  1. Only products on the EnergyStar-Certified Product list for dishwashers, ice machines, steam cookers, and combination ovens with steam cooking functionality are eligible for this Rebate.  
    1. ENERGY STAR Certified Commercial Dishwashers | EPA ENERGY STAR 
    2. ENERGY STAR Certified Commercial Ice Machines | EPA ENERGY STAR 
    3. ENERGY STAR Certified Commercial Steam Cookers | EPA ENERGY STAR 
    4. ENERGY STAR Certified Commercial Ovens | EPA ENERGY STAR (Choose “Combination” for Oven Type) 
  1. The name on the Commercial Kitchen Rebate Application must be of an authorized customer associated with an active, non-residential Tacoma Water account.  

Not eligible: Ovens that are NOT Combination ovens with steam cooking functionality. 

Apply for a Rebate

Applications will only be accepted within 12 months after installation is complete. 

  1. Complete the Commercial Kitchen Rebate Application. 
  2. Attach a copy of invoices or receipts documenting the purchase of an eligible Product or Products.  
  3. Click the “Submit” button. 
  4. You will be notified by email if your Application is approved or if additional action is needed.    
    • If the Application is approved, you will receive an email from Tacoma Water via DocuSign to obtain your signature on the Agreement.  
    • If the application requires an inspection of the installed device(s), is incomplete, or if you are not eligible, you will receive an email with next steps, from: conservation@cityoftacoma.org. 
  5. An approved rebate will appear on your Tacoma Water bill approximately 8-12 weeks after the Agreement is signed with DocuSign.

FAQs

How much water can I save?

ENERGY STAR Certified Commercial Kitchen Products are tested and determined to save more water and energy than standard model equivalents. 

ENERGY STAR certified dishwashers are about 12 percent more energy efficient and 50 percent more water efficient than standard models. 

ENERGY STAR certified steam cookers are up to 60 percent more energy efficient and up to 90 percent more water efficient than standard models. 

ENERGY STAR certified batch-type ice makers are about 10 percent more energy efficient and 20 percent more water efficient when compared with standard models, and ENERGY STAR certified continuous-type ice makers are about 16 percent more energy efficient. 

ENERGY STAR certified commercial ovens.  

Commercial ovens are eligible for ENERGY STAR certification by achieving idle and cooking energy efficiency levels in both convection mode and steam mode, as well as a limit on water consumption rates in both steam and convection modes during cooking periods. 

Where can I buy Commercial Kitchen Products?

Eligible products may be available at restaurant supply stores, home improvement stores, and online retailers. Be sure the product appears on the ENERGY STAR’s Certified Products list for either Dishwashers, Ice Machines, Steam Cookers, or Combination Ovens with Steam Cooking functionality in order to be eligible for the Tacoma Water Commercial Kitchen rebate. 

How much is the rebate?

Tacoma Water business and multifamily customers can receive a rebate of up to $2,000 on any qualifying EnergyStar-certified Commercial Kitchen Products.  

Who installs Commercial Kitchen Products?

They can be installed by a contractor or by the business Owner/employee. 

Can someone who rents their business space receive this rebate?

Yes, renters who are Tacoma Water business customers are eligible for this rebate. 

Can homeowners/residential tenants receive this rebate?

No, an Applicant for this rebate must be an authorized customer on a non-residential Tacoma Water account with either a Residential Multifamily (four or more units) or Commercial rate category. 

How long after installation do I have to submit the rebate application?

Applications are accepted up to a maximum of 12 months after installation. Product purchase date may be more than 12 months prior to application date. 

Will I get a rebate check in the mail?

No. This rebate will appear as a credit on your Tacoma Public Utilities business account 8-12 weeks after processing. 

Is an inspection required?

Tacoma Water reserves the right to an inspection if application is incomplete or more information is needed. If an inspection cannot be completed, Program rebate payment may be withdrawn.

Is there a paper application process?

Yes. Customers who do not have an email address can call 253-502-8723 or visit the TPU lobby to obtain a paper copy of the application. The rebate will be applied to the account as an account credit and no check will be mailed.
