Level 2 chargers deliver 10 to 25 miles per hour using a 240-volt circuit. If your vehicle came with a Level 2 plug, you may only need a matching 240-volt outlet. If you are a renter, a plug-in option may be the best choice, since you can take it with you if you move.
- Level 2 charger amperage must be greater than 20 amp (4.8 kW).
- Equipment must be UL Listed.
- Plug-in or hardwired equipment qualifies.
- May choose connected or non-connected charger depending on your need.
- One Level 2 charger incentive per Tacoma Power customer account.

-
If you don’t have space in your electrical panel, smart splitters may help. They use an existing 240-volt circuit (think dryer or oven) to power a Level 2 charger when the primary device isn’t in use. If you are a renter, a plug-in option may be the best choice, since you can take it with you if you move.
- UL safety certified.
- Plug-in or hardwired equipment qualifies.
- If you have a dryer in the garage or near where you park, a plug-in option will use the existing service to charge your EV when the primary appliance isn’t being used. This is a great choice for renters who aren’t able to upgrade the home’s electrical service.
- Hardwired options, installed by a licensed electrician, can help install Level 2 charging using the same circuit as your oven or other indoor appliances. Hardwired splitters offer flexibility on charger location, allowing the service to be available near the panel rather than a shared outlet.
- One smart splitter incentive per Tacoma Power customer account.
